Song:Nemesis
Album:Invisible Cinema
Pianist Aaron Parks was first noticed by jazz fans when he was in Terence Blanchard's band. The 2008 CD Invisible Cinema was his debut as a leader. He continues to record as a leader and also as a sideman. He was born Oct. 7, 1983 in Seattle. As a teen, he studied at the University of Washington and then he moved to the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He was still in school when he joined Blanchard's band. Parks was on the 2007 Grammy winner A Tale Of God's Will (A Requiem For Katrina) and he also played piano on several Spike Lee films including Inside Man and She Hate Me. Parks has also toured with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel. Invisible Cinema on Blue Note was Parks' debut as a leader in 2008. Musicians are Mike Moreno on guitar, Matt Penman on bass and Eric Harland on drums. Harland was also in Blanchard's band. This same band minus Moreno was in James Farm led by sax player Joshua Redman. They recorded two albums for Nonesuch. Parks currently records for ECM. His latest CD Find The Way with Ben Street on bass and Billy Hart on drums was released in 2017. He still records frequently as a sideman. He will tour in June. But when he's not touring, he plays New York clubs. In Sept., he's playing a week at The Village Vanguard with Street and Hart. Here's Aaron Parks performing Nemesis at The Jazz Standard in New York in 2008. That is Mike Moreno on guitar and Matt Penman on bass. I don't know who the drummer is but it is not Eric Harland.
