Emi Tomimatsu, Saori Ishioka |
DEEP JEWELS announced that Emi Tomimatsu vs Saori Ishioka is the first match added to the Mar. 6 show at Shinjuku FACE. It's not clear if this will be the main event of the show or if this is a title contender of some sort. If so, it's a bit underwhelming and just shows how low the talent level is. The contracted weight is 48kg. Both fighters used to fight at 52kg but both dropped to 48 when they failed at the higher weight. Dropping a weight class seems to be DEEP JEWELS matchmaker Shigeru Saeki's answer for everything. It isn't. Tomimatsu is 10-10 and she never going to be a great fighter. Her pattern is she wins a couple of fights and then loses a couple. She's probably due for a loss as she won her last two fights. DEEP JEWELS tries to push her as a former interim champ. But she only held that belt because MIZUKI missed weight and really, the fight should have been postponed. It's a sham. After a couple of years off to get married and have a baby, Ishioka has been 1-1 since her return. Her last fight was a loss to Ham Seo Hee in Nov. 2014. She didn't fight last year due to injury. Trying to promote mediocre fighters as stars doesn't do anything for DEEP JEWELS. It's just the same old same old. I think they have high hopes for these Team DATE girls. Excuse my skepticism.
