Artist:Ingrid Michaelson
Song:The Way I Am
Album:Girls and Boys
These days if an artist can get their songs on TV, said artist can become popular even without a major label. And that's how Ingrid Michaelson's The Way I Am became a hit single. She was born Dec. 8, 1979 in Staten Island, NY. Her father is classical composer Carl Michaelson and her mother is sculptor Elizabeth Egbert. Ingrid got into music while earning a degree in theater at Binghampton University. She started playing New York clubs and starting in 2002 she released songs on MySpace. She sold her CD Slow The Rain at shows. Ingrid has always owned her own label Cabin 24 Records. Her big break came when she streamed her 2006 album Girls and Boys on MySpace. A music producer from the TV series Grey's Anatomy found Ingrid on MySpace and contacted her to place her music on the show. When the buzz started, record companies came calling but Ingrid remains independent and only signed a distribution deal. Girls and Boys reached #63 on the Billboard Hot 200. That's very good for an independent CD. The Way I Am became a hit when it was used in a 2007 Old Navy commercial. It reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted internationally. It's her biggest hit single to date but her albums have done very well. Her latest CD Human Again was released Jan. 2012 and reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 200. Ingrid Michaelson is very talented and I'm sure we will hear more from her in the future. Here's the video for The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson. The guy in the video is singer songwriter Greg Laswell. Ingrid and Greg married in 2011.
