Marcus "Pleasure P" Cooper is best known as the lead singer of the popular R&B group Pretty Ricky. After he left to go solo, he had success with his 2009 debut album The Introduction of Marcus Cooper including a Grammy nomination. He returned to Pretty Ricky in 2014 and now says he never wanted to go solo in the first place. He was born Dec. 27, 1984 in Miami. Cooper joined Pretty Ricky in 1997 when he was 13 years old. Pretty Ricky was led by brothers "Spectacular" Blue Smith and Diamond "Baby Blue" Smith and managed by their father Joseph Smith Sr. After Pretty Ricky scored a top ten hit with Grind with Me, Cooper left in 2007. He has said in recent interviews that he never wanted to go solo. His dispute was not with the members of Pretty Ricky but with their manager Joseph Smith Sr. Cooper says the success of Pretty Ricky was great on the surface. But he wanted his own life apart from the group. When he confronted Smith Sr., his response was "I own you. You ain't doing nothing without me." So Cooper left and started his own management company and signed a record deal with Atlantic. Did You Wrong was the debut single from the 2009 album The Introduction of Marcus Cooper. It reached #20 on the R&B Singles chart and the other two singles did even better. The album reached #19 on the Billboard 200 and it was nominated for a Best Contemporary R&B album Grammy. Cooper wrote most of the songs with various co-writers. Most of the album was produced by Rico Love who has worked with Beyonce and Usher. But Did You Wrong was written and produced by Rex Zamor. He's mainly a songwriter best known for the Lil Wayne hit Lollipop. He produced as 1852 Productions. It's his only production credit to date. This album is available as a digital download. Cooper left Atlantic for E1 probably because he wanted ownership of his music. He released a mixtape and a couple of singles. He was working on an album to be titled I Love Girls but it was never released. Then in 2014, he joined the official Pretty Ricky reunion. Since then they have been playing shows but they have yet to release an album. They have released a few singles. Cooper released a couple of albums in 2021. As much as I hate to say it, maybe Joseph Smith Sr. was right. Here's the video for Did You Wrong by Pleasure P.
