AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Britney Spears

Artist:Britney Spears

Song:...Baby One More Time

Album:The Essential Britney Spears

Along with The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, Britney Spears is credited with reviving teen pop in the late 90s. Britney's 1999 debut single ...Baby One More Time was a huge hit and it started the trend of record companies signing young girl singers. Of course Britney had a lot of success but she looks sad today. That's what happens sometimes when the spotlight fades. She was born Dec. 2, 1981 in McComb, MS and she grew up in Kentwood, LA. As a child, she took dance, gymnastics and voice lessons and she won local talent contests. Britney was eight years old when her mom took her to Atlanta to audition for the revival of The Mickey Mouse Club. Casting director Matt Casella thought she was too young but he referred her to talent agent Nancy Carson who suggested Britney attend Professional Performing Arts School in New York. Britney was an understudy for the Broadway musical Ruthless! and she appeared on Star Search. Then she joined The Mickey Mouse Club in 1992 alongside Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. After the show was cancelled in 1994, Britney returned home. In 1997, Britney was in talks to join Lou Pearlman's female pop group Innosense. Her mom asked family friend and entertainment lawyer Larry Randolph for his opinion. He told her he would produce a demo and pitch her to record companies. And that's how Britney Spears got a record deal with Jive Records. Of course they already had The Backstreet Boys so they knew how to market to teens. And they used the same producers too. Half the album was produced by Jive house producer Eric Foster White. And the other half including ...Baby One More Time was written and produced in Sweden by Max Martin. ...Baby One More Time was released in Sept. 1998 and it topped the charts worldwide. And when the album ...Baby One More Time was released in Jan. 1999, it sold almost 15 million copies. One thing I wanted to point out is that Britney was 17 years old at the time and in the video for ...Baby One More Time and on the album cover, they made her look much younger. If you don't think this helped record sales, you're dreaming. Though this was Britney's biggest selling album, she continued to have success until her recent well publicized personal problems. I guess at this point she is semi retired. You can get all of her hits on this 2CD comp. Here's the video for ...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears.
