Artist:Brainstorm
Song:Lovin' Is Really My Game
Album:Stormin'
The band Brainstorm had brief success on the R&B charts. They only recorded three albums on Clarence Avant's Tabu label. Like all the Tabu acts, Jerry Peters produced. At the time disco was king and Brainstorm was a funk band. They were from Detroit. The lead singer was Belita Woods. Other members were Charles Overton on sax, Jeryl Bright on trombone, Larry Sims on trumpet, Trenita Womack on flute, Bob Ross on keyboards, Lamont Johnson on bass and Renell Gonsalves on drums. Lovin' Is Really My Game reached #14 on the R&B Singles chart. Woods and Womack wrote the song. A second single charted but that was about it. Brainstorm recorded three albums and split up in 1980. Stormin' is available as a digital download. Woods toured with Parliament Funkadelic in the 90s. She died in 2012. Womack joined The Funk Brothers. Sims was in Sounds of Blackness. Bright was in Cameo. Ross became smooth jazz pianist Professor RJ Ross. Johnson was a session musician. Gonsalves is the son of long time Duke Ellington sax player Paul Gonsalves. He is currently in sax player Ernie Krivda's band. Here's Brainstorm performing Lovin' Is Really My Game on Soul Train 1977.
