AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Amy Macdonald

Artist:Amy Macdonald
Song:This is the Life
Album:This is the Life: Deluxe Edition

Scottish singer songwriter Amy Macdonald had success in Europe with her 2007 debut CD This is the Life and the single This is the Life. She has not been successful in North America and I think she has faded in recent years. She was born Aug. 25, 1987 in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Apparently this is a suburb of Glasgow. Her main inspiration to get into music was the popular group Travis. She bought a Travis chord book and taught herself to play guitar. Then she started writing and at age 15 she was playing the Glasgow coffeehouse circuit. After sending a demo in response to an ad in the music paper New Musical Express, she was contacted by Pete Wilkinson who was starting Melodramatic Records. After several months recording at Wilkinson's home studio, she signed with Vertigo Records. Amy's 2007 debut CD This is the Life sold three million copies across Europe. The single This is the Life was very successful in several European countries. The single Mr. Rock and Roll was her biggest hit in England. I think Amy's music reminded British fans of the late Kirsty MacColl. She toured the US and appeared on Ellen and other shows. But the album was not successful. Since then Amy has released three albums with diminishing returns. On her 2017 CD Under Stars she worked with veteran producer Cam Blackwood. Vertigo also released a Best Of comp featuring a new song Woman of the World. I normally recommend comps. But This is the Life was released with a bonus CD with live tracks and alternate takes. It's available as a budget CD. According to her Instagram, Amy is currently working on a new album. She seems to have peaked in 2007. One would think she would need to turn that around to keep Vertigo happy. Here's the video for This is the Life by Amy Macdonald.
