AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Shore

Artist:The Shore
Song:The Hard Road
Album:The Shore

Based on their 2004 debut CD, The Shore looked to have a bright future in the alternative music market. Their mix of 60s psychedelic and Brit Pop is certainly worth checking out. But they got lost in the shuffle when their record company was sold and they have been struggling to return ever since. The Shore is from the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles. Lead singer and songwriter Ben Ashley took some songs to producer Rick Parker. Parker is keyboard player for the band Sparklers and he has also produced several alt rock bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Parker brought in bassist Kyle Mullarky, guitarist Cliff Magreta and drummer John Wilmer. The resulting demos got the attention of Maverick Records A & R executive Scott Austin and he signed them to a contract. Of course you probably know that Maverick was owned by Madonna. After releasing an EP in 2003, they recorded a full length album that was released in 2004. The CD was critically praised but didn't sell well. Meanwhile, The Shore added guitarist Wayne Faler. Warner Bros. bought Maverick in 2005 and Austin left. And The Shore left too. Maverick continued to operate as a subsidiary of Warners. They're still around. The Shore released the digital only album Light Years in 2008 and are said to be currently working on new music. They have been playing live shows. So I don't know if The Shore will resurface on a major label. But their 2004 CD is worth checking out. Here's the video for The Hard Road by The Shore.
