AccuRadio Song Of the Day-Nick Garrie

Artist:Nick Garrie
Song:Can I Stay With You
Album:The Nightmare Of J.B. Stanislas

Nick Garrie is an obscure British folksinger who has become a cult figure in recent years despite not recording since the early 70s. He had some success in Europe. He retired from music but is now touring again. I think those who like similar artists like Donovan or Nick Drake may enjoy his music. He was born June 22, 1949 in Yorkshire, England. He started writing songs while attending Warwick University. He started performing in 1968 while backpacking through the south of France. He recorded an album in Belgium but it was never released. He signed with the French label DiscAZ and went into the studio with producer Eddie Vartan. He is the brother of French pop star Sylvie Vartan and has produced albums for Johnny Hallyday. Vartan added an orchestra to the 1969 album The Nightmare Of J.B. Stanislas against Garrie's wishes. Then DiscAZ owner Lucien Morisse committed suicide within days of the album release. So it went nowhere. Garrie quit the music business though the album started to gain a cult following over the years. He didn't seem to be aware of that. Garrie returned to music as Nick Hamilton in 1984 and and topped the Spanish pop charts. And he also released an album in 1994. But when songs from The Nightmare Of J.B. Stanislas started appearing on various artists psychedelic comps, Rev-Ola released the album on CD in 2005. An expanded 2CD edition has been recently released. I don't think you need that. Nick Garrie returned to live performing but also has a career as a French teacher. Here's the video for Can I Stay With You by Nick Garrie.
