AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Niteflyte

Artist:Niteflyte

Song:If You Want It

Album:Too Slow To Disco 2

The 1979 single If You Want It was a top 40 pop hit and top 30 R&B hit. It was the only chart single for Niteflyte. They only released two albums before splitting up. They are not to be confused with the 90s British band Nite Flyte. Niteflyte was from Miami. Santiago "Sandy" Torano is a guitarist for hire and producer who also writes songs and sings. As a songwriter, he is credited as Sandy. As a guitarist and producer, he is credited as Santiago. Most guys don't separate the two. As a producer, he worked with Phyllis Hyman and The Commodres. And he played guitar with The Brecker Bros. and jazz organist Larry Young. But he was looking for a singer he could start a band with. Howard Johnson was looking for the same thing. He was performing in Miami clubs. Torano came into the club one night. And after hearing Johnson sing, they formed Niteflyte. They signed with the German label Ariola Records with RCA distribution. They released the 1979 album Niteflyte and the single If You Want It reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #21 on the R&B Singles chart. Torono and Johnson share the lead vocal and also wrote If You Want It together. Torono produced with recording engineer Barry Mraz. Guests include The Brecker Brothers and David Sanborn, Hamish Stuart of Average White Band on guitar and Phyllis Hyman. Niteflyte released Niteflyte 2 in 1981. But it appears that Johnson didn't like the album and he decided to go solo. And that was the end of Niteflyte. The album Nightflyte is available as a digital download. But I think that most will only want If You Want It and you can get it on this various artists CD of Yacht Rock. Never heard of Yacht Rock? It's supposed to be music that you listen to on your yacht. You think I'm joking? This is part of a series of CDa and HBO has produced a Yacht Rock documentary. I haven't watched it yet. Johnson signed with A&M Records and topped the Dance chart with the 1982 single So Fine. Torano has done studio work but nothing notable. Here's the video for If You Want It by Niteflyte.
