Leonard John Crofoot won a Drama League Critics Award for playing Tom Thumb in the 1980 Broadway musical Barnum. Bigger Isn't Better is his big song. You may recall seeing him in a couple of the Star Trek shows. He was born Sept. 20, 1948 in Utica, NY. He is a trained ballet dancer. But as he says in an interview on the Star Trek website, he could sing well enough to get the role of Tom Thumb in the hit show Barnum. It was his first major role. He had appeared in touring productions of Hello, Dolly and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Crofoot won a Drama League Critics Award. The cast album for Barnum is out of print. But you can get Crofoot's performance of Bigger Isn't Better on this budget CD compiled by the editors of Playbill. Crofoot also appeared in the 1985 show Grind. Then he moved to Los Angeles. His most notable appearance was as Trent in a 1988 episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called Angel One. He also appeared in a 1990 episode of the same show under a lot of makeup. He also appeared in a 2000 episode of Star Trek: Voyager. He's been on some other shows. And he has recreated Donald O'Connor dances from Singin' in the Rain a couple of times on Oscar broadcasts. In 1996 he created the one man show Nijinsky Speaks. It's a tribute to ballet dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. He took that show all over the US for several years. Crofoot is still active in Los Angeles as a dance teacher and choreographer. Here's a video for Bigger Isn't Better by Leonard John Crofoot.
