Though Lea Michele is best known for the TV series Glee, she had a long career on Broadway. She had her greatest success with the 2006 show Spring Awakening. She was born Lea Michele Sarfati Aug. 29, 1986 in The Bronx, NY and she grew up in Tenafly, NJ. Her father owned a delicatessen. She was eight years old when she played Young Cosette in the Broadway production of Les Miserables. She also appeared in Ragtime in Toronto and New York. Spring Awakening was written by singer songwriter Duncan Sheik. Lea was involved in the early development of the show. She played the female lead Wendla. Mama Who Bore Me kicked off the show. Spring Awakening was very successful. Lea was nominated for a Drama Desk award. It was after she left Spring Awakening in 2008 that she signed on for the TV series Glee. And that's where most fans know her. While still on Glee, Lea signed a record deal with Columbia. She has released three albums. The latest was Christmas in the City in 2019. Since moving to Los Angeles, Lea has continued to be successful on TV. She was a regular on the Fox series Scream Queens, the ABC series The Mayor and she currently is the lead voice on the Nickelodeon animated series Butterbean's Cafe. She is also hosting the health and wellness show Well, Well, Well for the Ellen DeGeneres Network which is scheduled to launch as Ellen Digital Network in 2020.
