Yesterday Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie reported that Irene Aldana vs Leslie Smith will be added to UFC on FOX 22 Dec. 17 at the Golden1 Center in Sacramento. The good news is that Irene is a teammate to Alexa Grasso who made her successful UFC debut on Saturday. The bad news is Irene isn't as good as Alexa. The fighters that Irene beat in Invicta are at a low competition level. In her one fight against an elite opponent, Irene lost to Tonya Evinger by TKO. I've seen enough of her to believe that she is not a UFC caliber fighter. But I guess she and Alexa are a package. Similarly, I don't believe Leslie is a UFC caliber fighter either. She got into the UFC as a late replacement and her record is 8-7-1. And that's how Leslie's career has gone. She alternates wins and losses. Leslie earned a new UFC contract when she agreed to be the sacrificial lamb for Cris Cyborg's UFC debut. There's no question she's a game fighter. It doesn't mean she's a good fighter. Neither fighter has much of a ground game. So I expect this to be a glorified kickboxing match and it could be a snoozer if it goes the distance.
