AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Badly Drawn Boy

Artist:Badly Drawn Boy
Song:Once Around The Block
Album:The Hour of Bewilderbeast

British singer songwriter Damon Gough calls himself Badly Drawn Boy. Though he has had some commercial success in England, he has a loyal cult following and he doesn't seem to care much about hit singles. He was born Oct. 2, 1969 in Dunstable, England and he grew up in Bolton. Gough says that Bruce Springsteen is his main influence. The name Badly Drawn Boy is from the TV show Sam and the Magic Ball. Gough was playing clubs in Manchester when he met DJ Andy Votel and the two decided to form Twisted Nerve Records. They are distributed by XL Recordings, best known as Adele's label. They tend to leave their artists alone and not put pressure on to have commercial success. After releasing a couple of EPs, Badly Drawn Boy released his debut album The Hour of Bewilderbeast in 2000. Once Around The Block was the first single. He won the Mercury Prize so it charted in England but where he's had most of his success is in the Indie Rock market. So he has a very loyal cult following. Gough composed the score for the 2002 film About A Boy and he's worked on a couple more film scores since then. In fact his latest CD Being Flynn is the score for a 2012 film. Gough Told The Guardian he has been dealing with depression and a creative dry spell. In 2015 he released an expanded 15th anniversary edition of Hour of the Bewilderbeast and he has been touring England. Here's the video for Once Around The Block by Badly Drawn Boy.
