Aaron Tippin was part of the neo traditional movement in country music in the 90s. He had three number one country hits including That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You in 1995. He was born July 3, 1958 in Pensacola, FL and grew up on a farm in Travelers Rest, SC. He sang growing up but his dad was a commercial pilot and Tippin planned for that to be his career. When the aviation industry went into a slump, Tippin moved to Nashville in 1986 and appeared on the TNN talent show You Can Be A Star. He was hired as a staff songwriter at Acuff Rose. After writing a few songs for others, he was spotted performing in a Nashville club and signed with RCA Records in 1990. His first single You've Got To Stand For Something became an anthem for soldiers fighting in the Gulf War. It reached #6 on the Country Singles chart. His first number one country hit was There Ain't Nothin' Wrong With the Radio in 1992. For the next couple of years, Tippin's singles didn't chart as high. He finally topped the charts again with That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You in 1995. Though Tippin writes a lot of his own songs, That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You was written by Sally Dworsky, Paul Jefferson and Jan Leyers. Dworsky is a voice actor and singer who has worked on The Lion King. Jefferson is a singer songwriter who has written songs for others. Leyers was a member of the Belgian group SoulSister. Tippin's CD Tool Box was certified Gold. Tippin left RCA for the Disney owned label Lyric Street in 1998. His third number one country hit Kiss This came in 2000. His 2001 patriotic song Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagles Fly crossed over to pop and reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. He released a couple more albums and then left Lyric Street after they cancelled an album he recorded in 2005. You can get Tippin's RCA recordings on this budget comp. Tippin has since recorded for his own label Nippit, Cracker Barrel, Country Crossing and his latest CD All In The Same Boat with Sammy Kershaw and Joe Diffie was released May 2013 on Big Hit Records. Those three guys toured earlier this year. Currently Tippin is touring the fair and casino circuit. Here's the video for That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You by Aaron Tippin.
