Artist:The Band Perry
Song:If I Die Young
Album:The Band Perry
The Band Perry burst upon the music scene in 2010 and If I Die Young zoomed to the top of the country charts and crossed over to pop. Their second CD will be released in April. They are a family group from Ridgeland, MS which is a suburb of Jackson. Lead singer Kimberly Perry was born July 12, 1983. Bassist Reid Perry was born Nov. 12, 1988. Mandolin player Neil Perry was born July 23, 1990. Kimberly led her own band as a teen and the boys were roadies. But eventually they became the band and the family moved to Nashville to get them into the music business. In 2005 they went on a New Faces of Country tour. They were discovered in 2008 by Garth Brooks' manager Bob Doyle and he got them a record deal with Republic Nashville. If I Die Young was the second single and it topped the Country Singles chart and reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Kimberly Perry wrote the song. They all write. The 2010 CD The Band Perry topped the Country Album chart and reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 200. It was certified Platinum. The album was produced by Nathan Chapman, best known for producing Taylor Swift, and Paul Worley who discovered Dixie Chicks. They won the Best New Artist Grammy and If I Die Young was the CMA Song of the Year. Kimberly is a great singer so you might think the record company would want to spin her off as a solo artists. But she is already the star of the group and her brothers don't seem to have much personality. I see them staying together because they are family. The Band Perry will have a new CD coming in April produced by Rick Rubin. The single Better Dig Two was released Oct. 2012. I expect the album to be a huge hit.
