Welcome to Frank Pozen's Big Bad Blog. A lot of folks have been asking me to update them about my recovery. So I thought I would start a blog primarily to do that but also to talk about other topics of interest including the wrestling business and whatever else I can think of. I plan to update this on a regular basis so check back and leave a comment if you wish.

Big Bad Blog Fighter Of The Year-Ronda Rousey
The 2011 Big Bad Blog Fighter Of The Year is Rowdy Ronda Rousey. It's not even close. Naho "Sugi Rock" Sugiyama was the only other fighter under consideration. But there's more to Ronda than just her record. She brings a lot of attention to women's MMA. Most of the people who don't like what she says are morons. There's no etiquette in the fight business. Ronda was born Feb. 1, 1987 in Riverside County, CA. Her mom Dr. AnnMaria DeMars was a judo champ and women's judo pioneer. Ronda started training in judo at age 9 at Team Hayastan with Gokor Chivichyan, Leo Frincu and the legendary Judo Gene LeBell. At age 17, Ronda became the youngest judoka at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. And in 2008, she became the first US woman to win an Olympic judo medal. It was bronze. She saw Gina Carano on TV and decided to become a pro MMA fighter. She also considered working for the Coast Guard. Ronda's amateur record was 3-0 and her pro record is 4-0. All seven fights ended in the first minute by armbar. My assessment of Ronda is the only female fighter who has comparable quickness is Megumi Fujii. And that quickness will make Ronda very difficult to beat. So when Ronda said she wanted to drop to 135 to take the Strikeforce belt from Miesha Tate, that upset a lot of idiots. At first, I thought Sarah Kaufman should get her promised title shot. But the more these idiots whined about Ronda, the more I thought that Ronda should get what she wants. It's not like Ronda just walked in off the street to become a pro fighter. She won an Olympic medal. She's not the same as other fighters with four pro fights. We need better athletes in women's MMA. If Ronda Rousey inspires Olympic caliber athletes to enter MMA, that's a good thing. 2008 Olympic Bronze Medal wrestler Randi Miller will make her pro debut in February. Promoters should be recruiting these kind of athletes. So if Ronda Rousey continues along her current path, I expect her to face Cris Cyborg at the end of 2012. That's a fight Strikeforce saves for later. You have to build up to it. The bottom line is that if Ronda Rousey inspires the next generation of young girls to take up judo and then MMA, she's done her job. She could be the 2012 Big Bad Blog Fighter Of The Year too.
