Artist:Why Don't We
Song:Fallin' (Adrenaline)
Album:The Good Times and the Bad Ones
Why Don't We was an attempt at a boy band for a new generation. They had modest success but a lawsuit forced them to split up after releasing two albums. They formed in 2016. Daniel Seavey and Jonah Marais are the band leaders as they write and produce everything. Seavey is a former American Idol contestant. The other members were Jack Avery, Corbyn Besson and Zach Herron. They all posted videos on YouTube and met on social media tours like DigiTour. So they decided to form Why Don't We in Sept. 2016. They released a single followed by a series of EPs on a label owned by their manager. There was enough buzz about Why Don't We that they got a record deal with Atlantic for their 2018 debut album 8 Letters. That album was mostly produced by R&B singer Jeremih's producer Mick Schultz. The album did OK but there were no hit singles. I'm sure no one was satisfied with the results. So for the 2020 album The Good Times and the Bad Ones, Seavey and Marais wrote most of the songs and Seavey took over as producer. Fallin' was the first single and it reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. So at least they are progressing. You'll notice that Fallin' has a gaggle of songwriters. That's because it samples the 2013 Jay-Z song Black Skinhead. Most of the songwriting credits are from that. This album is available as a budget CD. Why Don't We were ready to go on tour when their former manager sued their current manager. The band cancelled the tour and went on hiatus. The result of the lawsuit is they are unable to use the name Why Don't We so they split up. Seavey signed with Atlantic and released an album earlier this year. The others have self released singles. Seavey writes and produces. So I could see him having success. But not the others. Here's the video for Fallin' (Adrenaline) by Why Don't We.
