AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Ashley Monroe

Artist:Ashley Monroe

Song:On to Something Good

Album:The Blade

Singer songwriter Ashley Monroe has had modest success on the country charts. The 2015 album The Blade has been her biggest seller to date but it wasn't that big. She is also in Miranda Lambert's group The Pistol Annies. She was born Sept. 10, 1986 in Knoxville, TN. She won a talent contest at age 11. And she started writing songs at age 13 after her father died of cancer. Ashley moved to Nashville to play in clubs. A publishing deal led to a record deal with Columbia. Her debut album Satisfied was supposed to be released in 2006. When the first two singles did not reach the top 20, Sony decided not to release it. This was around the time Sony merged with BMG and the BMG people were against releasing albums that were in this kind of limbo. Sony did release it in 2009. But by that time, Ashley had left Columbia. After self releasing an EP in 2009, Ashley signed with Warner Bros. She recorded three albums for Warners. Meanwhile she started The Pistol Annies with Miranda Lambert and they made two albums. On to Something Good is from Ashley's 2015 album The Blade. Vince Gill produced Ashley's first two albums. Ashley wrote the song with veteran Nashville songwriters Barry Dean and Luke Laird. The Blade was highly acclaimed. Time Magazine named it the best album of 2015. Veteran country music writers believe that Ashley's music is too traditional and listeners prefer the country rock mix of acts like Florida Georgia Line. Ashley left Warners after three albums. Meanwhile Ashley married Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks and they had a son. Ashley released an album in 2021. And The Pistol Annies released a Christmas album in 2021. Then Ashley announced that she is undergoing chemotherapy for a rare form of blood cancer. There is no cure but the chemo is supposed to delay the effects. Well, she can still write songs and she still performs. Here's the video for On to Something Good by Ashley Monroe.
