Song:Money
Album:Dub Side Of The Moon
A reggae tribute band might seem like a dumb idea but I guess execution is everything. The Easy Star All-Stars created a big splash when this Pink Floyd tribute album was released in 2003. It's been one of the most popular reggae CDs in recent years and the band has done other tribute CDs. The band is from New York City. Guitarist Michael G. (Michael Goldwasser) and keyboard player Ticklah (Victor Axelrod) were in the R & B band Special Request. When that band split up, the two decided to turn their attention to reggae. They started their own record label in 1997. The original plan was to have a studio group and produce other artists. But after producing tribute concerts to Augustus Pablo and Sugar Minott, they decided Easy Star All-Stars could be turned into a real band. They also got the idea of doing a reggae version of the Pink Floyd classic album Dark Side Of The Moon. When the 2003 CD became a big hit, I'm sure no one was more surprised than Goldwasser and Axelrod. Now they're on a tenth anniversary tour. There are several guest vocalists on the album including Gary "Nesta" Pine and Dollarman on Money. The Easy Star All Stars have also recorded tribute CDs to Radiohead, The Beatles and most recently Michael Jackson's Thriller. But it all goes back to Dub Side Of The Moon catching on with reggae fans. Axelrod is also a founding member of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Here's the Easy Star All-Stars performing Money from the 2006 DVD Dub Side Of The Moon Live.
