AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Dawes

Artist:Dawes
Song:Time Spent In Los Angeles
Album:Nothing Is Wrong

Dawes is a current incarnation of the kind of California folk rock we all listened to in the 70s. They started out as the post punk band Simon Dawes when lead singer and songwriter Taylor Goldsmith was attending Malibu High School in Los Angeles. He wrote the band's songs with Blake Mills. Other members were Wylie Gelber on bass and Stuart Johnson on drums. The band name is the middle names of Goldsmith and Mills. Mills and Johnson left after Simon Dawes recorded one album and were replaced by Goldsmith's brother Griffin Goldsmith on drums and Alex Casnoff on keyboards. The band name was shortened to Dawes and the band's music went in a folk rock direction. Producer Jonathan Wilson invited Dawes to record at his recording studio in Laurel Canyon. Wilson has worked with Father John Misty among others. This led to a contract with Dave Matthews' ATO Records and the CD North Hills was released in 2009. Casnoff left in 2010 and was replaced by Tay Strathairn. Time Spent In Los Angeles is from their 2011 CD Nothing Is Wrong. Jackson Browne and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers made guest appearances. Dawes appeared as themselves on an episode of the NBC TV series Parenthood. Their latest CD Stories Don't End was released last month and Dawes is currently touring with Mumford and Sons. Fans of that band should check out Dawes. Here's the video for Time Spent In Los Angeles by Dawes.
