Phronesis is a contemporary jazz trio led by Danish bassist Jasper Hoiby. They have been very successful on the jazz festival circuit. Hoiby formed Phronesis with British bassist Ivo Neame and Swedish drummer Anton Eger after Hoiby moved to England in 2005. Their debut CD Organic Warfare was released on Loop Records in 2007. French first appeared on that CD. But it also appeared on the 2010 live CD Alive. This was their first CD for the British label Edition Records. Eger was unavailable so Avishai Cohen drummer Mark Guiliana was brought in for this recording. Phronesis appeared on the cover of Jazzwise Magazine and alive was named Jazzwise 2010 album of the year. They were also nominated for a 2010 MOBO Award. As I said, they work a lot of jazz festivals and and toured North America in 2011. They appeared on both the Montreal and Ottawa jazz festivals. Anton Eger returned to Phronesis for the 2012 CD Walking Dark. The band is currently touring Europe and will return to North America this summer. Ivo Neame has recorded solo for Edition Records.
