Welcome to Frank Pozen's Big Bad Blog. A lot of folks have been asking me to update them about my recovery. So I thought I would start a blog primarily to do that but also to talk about other topics of interest including the wrestling business and whatever else I can think of. I plan to update this on a regular basis so check back and leave a comment if you wish.

Big Bad Blog Video Theatre-Rin Nakai vs Danielle West
Here's the fight video of Rin Nakai vs Danielle West from yesterday's PANCRASE show. To set this up, remember that Danielle missed weight and instead of imposing financial penalties like promoters do here, PANCRASE ruled that Danielle could not win the title. And she was also not allowed to use knees or a guillotine choke. Maybe they think she missed weight deliberately. I'm sure she didn't know they would issue those kind of penalties. That's why fighters must make weight. As we saw in the first match between these two, Danielle has no takedown defense. So Rin's strategy was to be patient and look for a takedown. It's a cautious strategy but considering Danielle's size advantage, it was a wise strategy. So they danced around for the first half of round one. But when Danielle ran out of patience and went after Rin, Rin countered with a takedown and went after submissions and ground and pound. Her second takedown shows how much strength Rin has. That was brute strength. She did the same thing in round two. So Rin's strategy in round three was to stay out of trouble. And that's what she did. A lot of dancing around. Danielle needed to finish and that didn't happen. I scored it 29-28 for Rin. Rin apologized afterwards for being too cautious. She wasn't happy with her performance. Rin is 5'1" so she's used to being at a height disadvantage. But I think with the weight disadvantage, aggression could have got her into trouble. It's not my favourite strategy but on this occasion, it was the correct strategy. Enjoy the video.

This blog is a perfect summary of the fight and regardless of the controversy, it would probably have gone the same way anyway. Rin may have apologised to the fans for her caution but as the superior wrestler, she knew exactly what she was doing. Her caution may have been penalised in America but was never going to be in Japan. Then again, Danielle did absolutely nothing in the fight.
ReplyDeleteIs there any news on what Rin is up to next?
ReplyDeleteNot yet. I don't expect anything for a while.
ReplyDeleteI've heard Rin might be fighting on an upcoming card in Japan. Any news on that atall?
